Filmed: 15th June 2026 I sat down solo with Andy Quick from Land of the Giants, The Andy Quick Band and now Sundogs for a wide-ranging conversation about music, creativity, social media and success. Rob was unable to be on this episode unfortunately due to the ongoing nerve pain in his neck and arm. We wish him well on his recovery. Andy talks about losing his social media accounts, doomscrolling and addiction. We discuss the pressure on musicians to become full-time content creators and the challenge of promoting your work without turning your entire life into content. The conversation also gets into Andy’s new project Sundogs and working with additional vocalists. Date of filming: 12th June 2026 In this episode, we talk about Robert’s recent neck injury, pinched nerve, severe nerve pain, and also the loss of strength and movement after working for years to rebuild his body. He's been in injury rehab for the best part of four years now. How do you keep going despite all of that? We have a good chat about pain, sleep deprivation, medication, the fact that a lot of people are suffering from invisible struggles. It is more of a mental game than anything else. Robert’s injury also left Richard facing an Echo Town gig alone for the first time in a long time. We talk about that show and how amazing it was and how it reshaped our perspective with regard to performing live. We talk about building sites, musicians’ day jobs, mobility, repetitive strain, the strange magic of live music, an emergency festival appearance and the importance of occasionally stopping work to shoot some zombies with your bro. We had our mate John Fairhurst round to the gaff for a long overdue catch-up,. We haven't seen this fella in 6 years and after having a great previous day fishing and BBQing the vibe was right to hit record on the cameras and mics and have a chat. We have always loved what this guy does, who he is and how he operates. We talk about music, getting sober, burning out, rising from the ashes, the strange world of playing gigs when you no longer drink, and why live music still feels like one of the most important things humans do together. John also shows us the beautiful handmade guitar he’s built from scratch using scrap pieces of timber from skips, bone found in fields, and an old accountant's sign. Time for some authenticity. It's a beautiful thing, and something we get complimented on a lot at our live shows. We talk about growing older and figuring out who we really are. We talk about the moment where you stop trying to be what you think you’re supposed to be, and start just surrendering to what you actually are. Shot around May time 2025 we never released it. But this is still relevant as ever. We’ve both heard it countless times: “That’s not a real job!” So in this episode we just talk honestly about what it’s actually like trying to make music work as a life. Yeah, playing gigs is great fun, we love it, we have always loved jamming together, but that’s the bit everyone sees. But that’s only a tiny part of it. We say 3% but it's likely considerably less. Behind the gigs lie the long drives, loading gear, late nights, early mornings, emails, booking shows, sorting merch, editing videos, dealing with the utter ball ache that is social media and then somehow still finding the energy to actually make music. Then making music is all in house for us now, so we record and produce everything we make at this point to try and keep costs low (it doesn't work haha). I suppose this is something of a behind the scenes really, showing you the cogs, the nuts and bolts and a little insight into what we are up to when we aren't in the public eye. This isn’t us moaning about it. We love what we do. But as with most things that are worth doing and worth loving they require an immense amount of work. But it’s definitely not as simple as people think. If you’re doing something creative yourself, you’ll probably relate to a lot of this. So this episode is dedicated to all the people that have been told they don't have a real job when it comes to the creative industries. Episode 2 of The Echo Town Podcast - Shot around May time 2025, released late but better late than never! And even more relevant now than it was last year! In this episode, we discuss what it means to be a musician these days in the madness of the online realm. We talk about how social media has completely changed the game and how losing our online following overnight was detrimental to what we were trying to achieve. Is talent still what matters, or is it all about numbers now? We dive into old-school ways of building a fanbase like street teams, posters and word of mouth, and compare that to the modern algorithm-driven approach. To us, it does feel like there's something that has been lost along the way and a magic that no longer exists. There’s also a big conversation around AI fakery and creativity, obviously! That's the hot topic these days. Where does it help, where does it cross the line? Ultimately art has to come from people, it can't possibly come from anywhere else. We get into comparison, self-doubt, and the pressure of constantly seeing people better than you online, and why that doesn’t mean what you’re doing isn’t valuable. In the midst of all of this, we try to figure out how you actually break through the noise or the 'canopy' as we come to call it. Is that even the goal? Should the music industry feel so competitive? Episode 1 of The Echo Town Podcast. Shot around May time 2025 we never released it. So here we are. We talk about Rob's drum influences, have a laugh about the dynamics in the band, and get interrupted constantly by Dickens the cat. We dive into the roots of our musical journey, from getting detention for tapping on tables at school to the obsessive dedication that shapes our craft. We also get into the reality of being a two-piece band; the connection we have and why playing side-by-side matters more than people realise.
